'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith resumes contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he reminisces about the thrilling final moments of his team's epic comeback win against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. That match ended with Galbraith briefly donning a supporter's spectacles following the on-field celebration.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a long-range shot from outside the box, and his teammate quickly hammered in the loose ball before sprinting toward the crowd to celebrate, with supporters mobbing the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The result capped an incredible recovery given the team had been behind 2-0 deep into the latter period. During the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. He shared, "There was a supporter shouting out and Josh Key and I were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

That win booked a upcoming game at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with the London side in February. The athletic midfielder had a prime vantage point when the underdogs took the lead in spectacular fashion, with Jamie Donley's first-time shot from about way out going in via the bar and the City goalkeeper. It feels criminal that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've given it to him for taking the effort on from that far out," commented Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right flank after Orient changed formation. That meant facing off against Jack Grealish, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the Manchester squad who paid tribute to the way Orient approached the match.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the fundamentals and basic skills, they can just do it over and over again," he explains. "It appears that they always find their target and they understand how to dictate and neutralize a game. You can feel you're holding your own and then without warning they will just deliver a through ball through a line without you even spotting it. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It takes a tough attitude and attention just to remain competitive."

Welsh Transition

The club sought to acquire Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to sign him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He made a name as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at Orient and has rapidly replicated that in his new home. At the London club he reunited with his former manager, who previously gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in professional games on loan at his loan club from Old Trafford. Then came a spell at League Two Salford City, before he moved on from Manchester United.

Learning Curve

"I was perhaps a slightly green going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say youth team games is completely distinct. Sometimes it seems the ball is moved without serious challenge. You see few tackles or duels. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that maturation for both domestically and internationally, performing well for his national side, who could still reach the international competition next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including two matches games against Germany. The ex-coach, Galbraith's former international manager, paid him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he controls possession and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

This marks an incredible journey for the player from the neighborhood in the Belfast suburb, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who grew up watching his father, his father, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Manchester United Experience

The player's single match for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they competed on an plastic turf and the venue ceiling was shut owing to conditions of bitter cold. "It was a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he comments, grinning. "The preceding week, the academy prospects trained together, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was amazing."

Departing Old Trafford

How hard was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "It was fairly simple, because I reached the point where I realized I wouldn't break through at first-team level. I'm very appreciative for the years at the club but it got to the point where I believed I required a fresh start, join a smaller club and play first-team games. Now I'm gradually progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the early part of the afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at 5pm: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Before his recent move to the local area, the young professional was a constant rider in Swansea's so-called fun bus, a team vehicle driven by team personnel, the transport team, which ferries players to and from training and matches.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, another squad member, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has got his license. It's enjoyable to socialize with the guys but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and behind the wheel. His teammate is known for his humor; he's constantly causing mischief."

Fan Interactions

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside fans on public transport after starting his journey at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
